In my previous post, I detoured from a day trip walk into some detail about my love of George C. Marshall. I read in Heather Cox Richardson’s daily email that today is the 75 year anniversary of the then Secretary of State’s commencement address at Harvard University. He laid out the need for what came to be known as the Marshall plan to build back Europe after World War II.
Richardson shows that the plan laid out a “powerful set of shared values” in democracy. The free world
“coalesced around a concept of government based on equality before the law, secularism, civil rights, economic and political freedom, and a market economy: the tenets of liberal democracy”
