This was an uneventful day. We slept in and dawdled in our Albuquerque hotel until checkout time. That gave be time to get some blog posts up. Last summer we visited Santa Fe with our co-mother-in-law Jeanette and loved it. This trip we’d use it as a base for a trip up to Taos – but more on that later.

We got on the Mother Road and drove through Albuquerque. We wanted to visit the Kimo theater but it was closed for a graduation – it’s getting to be that time of year. As we left down we stopped at the much heralded Route 66 Diner.

Inside was delightful and our waitress was superb. They all wear turquoise uniforms

We especially liked the wall of the parking lot with all the old signs

That was about all that was blog-worthy. To be honest I was feeling a little under the weather from something I ate back in Holbrook. But we got to Santa Fe in good order and had a good rest before venturing out to Taos the next day. We stayed at the El Rey which is a great hotel with large rooms – perfect for a multiple day stay. It was in the 70’s when we arrived but the weather forecast was for cooling and rain, so we jumped into the heated pool and went back and forth between the pool and the hot tub for a while. A beautiful, relaxing day after a lot of traveling.
