Some friends and I have received calls and email asking what is happening in Portland. Nothing like the president is saying is happening. It’s quiet. I was downtown Portland for lunch with a friend last Tuesday and my wife was downtown yesterday (Sunday) afternoon. It was very quiet; no burning; no looting; no rioting. There have been small demonstrations around a federal building. Peaceful demonstrations that are guaranteed in the First Amendment.

I don’t know where the president is getting his information or what videos he’s been watching, but it isn’t from Portland this past year. A few years ago there was a problem in a four block portion of downtown. Not now; not today. We don’t need the National Guard. The governor says so; the mayor says so; the chief of police says so; the head of the Oregon state police says so.

The president would be well served to see what is real before taking citizen soldiers out of the regular to come to Portland to do nothing.

Perhaps it’s true that the president and vice president don’t believe in law; only power. If so, we are in terrible trouble.
