Europe 2026 – Monet’s Garden

Visit Date: September 28, 2026

Note 1: The cover image is from our tour friend Ann Kurinskas. She was kind enough to let me share her beautiful image. Thanks, Ann!

Note 2: There were a LOT of people in the garden. I’ve used the Lightroom AI Generative Remove tool on some of my pictures to get rid of them (well their images).

Our tour of Paris was behind us and we were heading toward the Normandy coast. Our first stop was Monet’s garden in Giverny on the banks of the Seine river – about an hour’s drive northwest of our hotel in the 7th Arrondissement of Paris. Monet moved here in spring of 1883 and was able to buy the property in 1889 ;with the financial help of Pau Durand-Ruel.

Monet loved color and his garden shows that love. You can see a small patch of the famous water lillies in the lower left corner.

My tour friend Ann Kurinskas shared this photo with me. I love how she got down low to get a better perspective with the flowers in the foreground. Thanks, Ann!

These rowboats add a beautiful touch

Even in early fall many flowers were in bloom

After some time wandering the garden we headed up to the house.

As you can see, yellow is the theme of the living room

And blue dominates the kitchen

Our tour guide (who you’ll see in the next post) told us that when Monet died and his coffin was in the house prior to burial, it was draped in the traditional black cloth. A friend said “this isn’t right” and replace the black with a colorful table cloth .

We climbed back on the tour bus and continued our trip toward Normandy stopping for lunch and site seeing in Rouen. You’ll have to come back later for that post.
