After being stymied on my train hunt in the Columbia Gorge, we headed up to Leavenworth, Washington. Carla had been here twice before: once with her Bunco group and once with her sisters. She loves the little tourist town; for myself, I was hoping for plenty of train action on what I supposed to be the BNSF mainline from Seattle to Chicago. We’ll see.

Road Trip to Glacier. Day 1 – Columbia Gorge
I thought our road trip days were behind us. Our last long trip was driving coast to coast from Portland to New York and back in 2016 (you can review those posts here). When we got back we were exhausted from the fun we had, but also from driving 7,157.5 miles – that is a lot of car time. We both swore “no more”, but as always I got the itch to hit the road. Emerging from the pandemic shut-down Carla surprised me, telling me she also wanted to get out again and see the country. There is just no substitute I have found that allows one to see a lot of the country in a short period of time.
Grilled Burgers with Fake Shack Sauce
We returned from a trip to Flat Head Lake and Glacier National Park in Montana last week but I’m having a difficult time getting through the photos to post. So, let’s talk about typical summer grilled burgers but this time with an impressive Fake Shack Sauce from Serious Eats. It’s based on the sauce used on Shake Shack burgers. I’ve only eaten at Shake Shack once over two years ago so I can’t judge the accuracy. But I have tried out various “special sauces” on my grilled burgers and this is my favorite so far – the only one that bears making again.
Programming a Mak Pellet Grill
If you have a MAK 1 Star or MAK 2 Star pellet grill and have had problems programming it through MakGrillsMobile, this post is for you. I too, had problems and finally created a small test program that demonstrates how to do it.
