Waxing Moon in Early July

I read Wednesday (July 13) that we had a super moon. On Sunday (July 10) I stepped outside around 10 PM before going to bed. Looking up over my shoulder I saw the moon coming up over the trees. While it wasn’t full, it was big, bright, beautiful. I went back inside to grab a camera thinking “nothing fancy; just a quick handheld picture”. Of course it turned out to be more involved.

Tamron 18-300 Zoom for Sony E-mount

I recently picked up a Tamron 18-300mm f/3.5 – 6.3 Di III-A VC VXD zoom lens for Sony E-mount pictures. This post and the next will feature pictures from this lens paired with my Sony A6600. I’m trying out this lens to see if it will work for traveling; I don’t like hauling around multiple cameras and lenses but want something that will work in a wide variety of situations.

Comparing Flash Modifiers

Many years ago on a trip to Washington DC with our kids and my mom we walked by a vendor selling picture postcards. He called out over and over “Eight postcards for a dollar – ALL DIFFERENT!” It was one of those moments we all remember and often paraphrase that line today; for example, at a buffet “Eight side dishes – ALL DIFFERENT!”. Well this project required 120 pictures – ALL THE SAME. That’s right I took 120 pictures of exactly the same scene in order to find the best light modifier for my cooking pictures.
