With the promise of a bright sunny day it was high time I got out to capture some pictures of trains. My first stop was on Columbia Blvd near St Johns, right where the railroad tracks come out of a tunnel under Mock’s Crest. Union Pacific and BNSF both have lines here that line up to the bridge across the Columbia River. I thought this would be a great location and I’d have my choice of pictures.

Stir Fried Bok Choy with Oyster Sauce
We originally bought a few bunches of bok choy with an eye to making a vegetarian dish for our family Sunday dinner; but schedules diverged. We wanted to wait on the big meal we had planned (more on that in a few posts) so I turned to J. Kenji López-Alt’s new wok cook book “The Wok: Recipes and Techniques” for an idea of what to do with the vegetable. I found a recipe for Chinese broccoli but the notes say bok choy would be a suitable replacement.

Wood Duck Neighbors
Our friend and neighbor Jon came over around February to clean out the Wood Duck box. If you are a snarking English major like me you are probably asking is that a wooden box for any kind of duck? No it’s a wooden nesting box for Wood Ducks. We haven’t seen a lot of activity this year but on the last day of March a mating pair checked out the accommodations.
