As we turned our back on Cambria we headed east on California highways 46 and 41 through Paso Robles over the coast range that forms the west end of the San Joaquin Valley until we hit I5 then had a long drive to Sacramento.

Spring 2023 California Road Trip – Trains!
I had been jonesing for a trip to Cajon Pass in Southern California in order to watch trains going from the desert, over the San Bernardino Mountains into greater Los Angeles. Getting large trains over the pass takes a lot of effort: manageable grades and a LOT of locomotives. It’s the kind of place foamers (what the railroad people call trains fans because we tend to foam at the mouth at the sight of a train) really start drooling.

Carne Asada and Homemade Salsa
Over the past few summers, I seem to have picked up on skirt steak as my steak of choice for grilling. In 2018 I made spice-rubbed skirt steak a few times.
